Mom went to go see Dr. Priego, her oncologist, today to talk about the results of her PET scan which she had last week. Overall, the news was very encouraging! Her brain, lungs, liver, and other major organs are all clear of cancer! Also, there has been no spreading and there are no spots in the left side of her pleural cavity (this is something that we were very scared about). Dr Priego's next step is to take a MRI to make sure that her bones are clear. That is going to happen on August 7th (if I remember correctly).
Something my dad was remembering from when he was sick many years ago is how hard it is to constantly have to talk about the fact that you are sick. We wanted to remind everyone of this and that while Mom loves to hear from everyone and welcomes the phone calls and visits, she doesn't want to constantly talk about the status of the disease or things going on surrounding it. She wants to hear about movies you saw, fun things you did, dinners you went to, book recommendations -- stuff like that! Tell her about your day! We'll make sure the medical updates get posted up here :-)
She is trying to "live in the moment" rather than worry about what has already happened or what could happen. I think the best way to support her is to join this venture and LIVE IN THE NOW!!!
